CSLB license lookup

Type a California contractor license number and I'll show you what CSLB's public License Master file says about it: status, license classes, expiration date, bond, and workers' comp. Then double-check it on CSLB's own site. It's the official record and it's updated continuously.

What this lookup shows (and what it doesn't)

The Contractors State License Board publishes its License Master file for free. It lists licenses that are currently renewed, or expired but still renewable. Cancelled and revoked licenses aren't in it. This lookup reads the copy dated Oct 20, 2026.

  • Status. "CLEAR" means active with no suspension. Anything else, like a bond or workers' comp suspension, is shown as CSLB lists it.
  • Classifications. The license classes the contractor may advertise and contract for, such as C-36 Plumbing or B General Building.
  • Bond and workers' comp. The contractor bond on file, and whether a workers' comp policy is on file or the licensee certified they're exempt.
  • What it can't show: complaints, disciplinary history detail, general liability insurance, or the quality of anyone's work. For legal actions and complaint disclosure, use CSLB's own lookup.

Don't have a number? Search by business or personal name on CSLB's Check a License page, or browse licensed contractors by trade and city.
